Beer Tasting: Fascinating Facts
Beer is an alcoholic, carbonated beverage, which is produced by fermentation of the basic ingredients of water, malt and hops. For a controlled activation of the yeast fermentation process is usually added.
In a wider sense, beer is understood to mean any alcoholic beverage that was prepared on the basis of saccharified strength, without using a distillation method. The demarcation of wine is that for wines plant sugars (fructose) or animal sources are used (for example, honey), while the beer is always a source of strength.
Typically, the sugar from the starch of cereals (barley, rye, rice, wheat, corn) is produced, less starch from potatoes or other vegetables such as peas is used. The Japanese Sake, though often called "rice wine" means, therefore, also falls under the definition of beerlike drinks.
On the origin of the word beer, there is no reliable evidence.
